NOW ENROLLING:

Come Out To Play: A Beatles Ensemble

In this ensemble we’ll have fun learning and playing songs selected from the early, middle and late periods of the Beatles catalog. I’ll provide the materials we need to render them accurately and in their full complexity, while also tailoring them to meet the needs and abilities of our ensemble. Although we won’t always be able to recreate the exact instrumentation on the records, we will strive to inhabit and enjoy the essence of the songs— the rhythmic feel, edge, humor, whimsy and joy. All instruments and skill levels welcome—  A flexible, kind and playful attitude required.

Contact Ian M. Riggs for more information/to enroll.

Jamming Ensemble

Our goal in this ensemble is to offer a supportive environment for musicians to play regularly with others, and guidance on helpful skills that foster fun and successful group playing. We’ll choose the material and focus for each session based on the interests and abilities of those involved and may include such skills/approaches as:

  • Choosing material that fits the group

  • Identifying common song forms

  • Basic Improvising Approaches

  • Creative/Generative Listening

  • Helpful Jam Etiquitte

  • Successfully Supporting Singers

  • Identifying areas in your playing to practice

All instruments/vocalists and skill levels are welcome as long as you have a basic proficiency on your instrument. There will be a brief questionnaire and/or interview for placement.
